Sir Peter Hendy, Chair of Network Rail, launched a Hansford Review consultation event at One Great George Street on Wednesday 15th March 2017.
The Hansford Review has been tasked by the board of Network Rail with examining contestability in the UK rail market, as well as exploring options for third party investment and infrastructure delivery on the national rail network.
Sir Peter, who gave the key note address, welcomed over 120 industry leaders, drawn from the public and private sectors, and asked them to support the work of the Hansford Review.
Sir Peter Hendy said:
“Network Rail has asked Peter Hansford to help us identify how our industry can create the conditions that encourage third party investment in the railway and reduce the costs of projects.”
Professor Peter Hansford said: “I would like to thank Sir Peter for opening our event and setting the scene for subsequent discussions.
“My review has excited great interest across the railway industry as well as in construction and finance sectors. This explains why over 80 organisations were represented at the consultation event and I would like to thank all those who attended for their positive and wide-ranging contributions. My review panel will consider all the points raised so that the Hansford Review can help create an environment that encourages sustainable third party investment in the national rail network.”
The Hansford Review consultation event was held in conjunction with the International Project Finance Association (IPFA) and The Nichols Group at One Great George Street, home of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Led by Professor Peter Hansford, the Hansford Review is supported and advised by a panel of experts.
The Hansford Review is due to report its findings to the Network Rail Board in Spring of 2017.
